Super Bowl party hosts have enough to worry about (food), and lack the proper tools (a pencil AND a ruler, people!!) to make the boxes template themselves. Luckily for you, we went ahead and had George Zainoun, our lead designer with years of experience and accolades…create a bunch of equal-sized boxes for you. We humbly present:

A Printable Super Bowl Squares/Boxes Grid

Just click on the link here for a download — or enlarge the image below — and print it out. Or enlarge it and trace it— gently—off your glowing computer screen! Rules are below! And just remember, if they already have the team names in there before you pick your box, you're dealing with amateurs!

Enjoy!!

Super Bowl Squares/Boxes Rules

Super Bowl squares make you cheer for weird things during the game ("I need a Chiefs field goal here, then an Eagles safety, then a Chiefs touchdown with a two-point conversion, then an Eagles kickoff return with another two-point conversion… in the next minute and 19 seconds"), and they could alter the course of your entire life in one night ("oh wait, I had the numbers backwards. I need that all from the Chiefs to win $175").

There's passion here, which means you need a strong set of rules…

1. Assign a $$ value to each square ($10 usually works, $5 would be fine!)

2. Have people put their name in the square they buy

3. Important note—the top and far-left boxes are for numbers, and the white space above and to the left are for the team names. DO NOT FILL THOSE IN UNTIL ALL SQUARES ARE FULL.

4. Once you have filled up all the pickable squares, you will randomly assign the top or left to the Chiefs or Eagles. I put their names on paper, fold them, put them in my hand, and have someone pick “the top” and someone else pick “the side.”

5. To fill in the numbers, you can go analog and rip up 0-9 on pieces of paper and have someone pick them for the top, and then re-fold, shake, and have them pick again for the bottom. Or just go to Play Football Squares and have the numbers generate randomly. If you want to add another level of randomness to it, you can roll a couple dice and hit the “generate random numbers” button to whatever number you roll.

6. After you write the numbers across, take the squares up to your home Xerox machine and make copies for everyone.

7. If you don't have a Xerox, you can just tack it to the wall for everyone to see.

8. With a couple minutes to go in each quarter, people will inevitably shout, “who has 0 and 7??” and someone will get excited, and then a team will unexpectedly score with :02 to go and you will have to console that person for the remainder of the night.

9. Payouts are up to you, but 100 squares at $5 each will put $500 into your pot:

  • First quarter winner: $75
  • Halftime winner: $150
  • Third quarter winner: $75
  • FInal score winner (end of OT if it goes that far): $200

If you want to make the end game mean more, go 50/150/50/250 or even 50/100/50/300. Or be bold and do $10 a space and really up the stakes.

Good luck. Enjoy the game! And print out responsibly!!
